Solapur is a city located in the south-western region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Solapur is located on major highway, rail routes between Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The city was known as Sonnalagi earlier and it was changed to Sonalipur and then Solapur later.
Solapur is famous for its mattresses, powerloom, and handloom industries. There are many units of cotton material products in the city. Earlier this land was called as the city of cotton production. The other main area of revenue of the city is tourism. As Solapur district is famous for siddheshwar temple, vithoba temple (Pandharpur) & swami Samarth temple (Akkalkot), numerous pilgrims visit the city every year.
